REFER IT BACK – send message to KCC

To stand a good chance of stopping the planned stroke unit closures, we need
to take court action ––Judicial review AND get the plans referred back to the
Secretary of State (Matt Hancock) for independent review. By doing both, we
double our chances of getting a major rethink on the plans which are not fit
for purpose:

– Cutting Thanet’s stroke units from the current six down to just three for
– all of Kent and Medway will risk capacity problems.

– The ambulance service is unlikely to be able to cope.

– Thanet will be left with a minimum ONE HOUR journey for time critical care.

– Deprived areas will suffer the most.

– Hospitals may be downgraded or closed in the long term as a result

Tell them how important this is to you and your community. Tell them stroke
care is time-critical. Tell them you are worried about the future of the
hospitals where closures are happening. Tell them that Thanet cannot be left
with a journey time that is double what is acceptable elswhere.Tell them there
is a lack of evidence for this working, and that the residents of Kent should
not be subjected to an experiment where lives are at stake.

We need YOUR HELP to make this happen. Please write to the 17 councillors on the HOSC (the KCC Health Scrutiny committee) and persuade them to vote to Refer it Back
